Our Rooms

  1. Baby and Toddler Room

Young children need comfort and love with stimulating surroundings - promoting a calm and caring atmosphere. We liaise with you closely so that life at the nursery is a home from home. We provide a multi-sensory environment by including Heuristic play sessions which develop your child through touch, sight, smell, taste and movement.

When your baby becomes a toddler we help them channel their new found confidence, mobility, speech and dexterity skills. The Montessori teaching methods are introduced and guide your child positively to learn right from wrong. Toilet training normally starts in this room but only when your child is ready and always in discussion with you.

Music, song, rhyme, imaginative and messy play, movement and stories all contribute to happy and confident individuals - equipped for the next stage of their development. Babies are out doors and off site for walks every day to enjoy the experience of our surrounding countryside.

In Pre-school

Children develop best through first hand experience. With careful observation, suitable challenges are planned that will lead to a high degree of motivation and success. Children will enjoy a breadth of activities from our Montessori Curriculum for life in line with the national curriculum. We have a child centred approach to build on what your child already knows and can do.

All learning is encouraged through purposeful play, independent learning and self- discipline  in line with the Montessori ethos.

Art, music, science and technology, early literacy and numerical activities are a part of our daily routine. We Provide opportunities to develop their language, reasoning, creative and imagination skills and are one of the only nurseries in Surrey to provide an outside classroom.

Through our daily hygiene routines, we provide opportunities to gain body control and dexterity with an awareness of health and care.

Children will learn in an environment where their achievements are highly valued.
Your child will have access to a computer from the age of three.

Out in the Open Air

Our garden has a rubberised surface and a sun sail for shade to allow your child to get plenty of fresh air all year round. We also make full use of the adjacent playground, recreation grounds at the rear and surrounding countryside and woodland. At Friends the outdoors is our main classroom and children from 3 months go out everyday come rain or shine.

Our Outdoor Learning ethos developed into Forest Schooling in 2009. We are the first nursery in Surrey to offer this unique education. We have a number of trained Forest Leaders with the Sussex Wildlife Trust and this knowledge enables our children to benefit from 'natural' teaching in all areas of the curriculum.

The holistic approach means that all styles of learning are supported; learning is therefore accelerated and because they have first hand experiences this new found knowledge sticks. Parents have been astounded at their children's recall from outdoor teaching and stamina as children walk a mile to and from their Forest experience.

Forest School

At Friends Forest School we know all about taking advantage of the learning opportunities the great outdoors can offer.

We are the first Nursery Forest School in Surrey, thanks to getting agreement from local landowners and training with the Wildlife Trust. The philosophy behind Forest Schools is to encourage and inspire individuals of any age through positive outdoor experiences.

There are key elements that make Forest Schools different to simply going outdoors.
